How the Calculator Works
Every estimate starts from the college's published acceptance rate, because that is the chance of a typical applicant. Jim then rates your profile out of 100 on five things: academics, activities, leadership, athletics, and personality. Academics carries the most weight. Your SAT or ACT is compared with the college's middle-50% range for enrolled students. If your profile is stronger than that college's typical admit, your percentage rises above its acceptance rate. If it is weaker, it falls below.
Two rules keep it honest. Colleges that admit fewer than 10% of applicants never show above 24%, because they turn away most applicants with perfect numbers. And no estimate goes above 92%, because nothing in admissions is guaranteed. The calculator cannot read your essays or recommendations, so use the numbers to check that your list has enough targets and safeties, not to decide whether to apply to a school you love.
Deadlines and essay prompts for every school here are on our college pages, verified for the 2026-2027 cycle. Essays are the part of your application you can still change: rate your essay free.
Want to raise those numbers? Jim builds a balanced college list from your whole profile, then coaches your essays and tracks every deadline. Free to start, no credit card.

How is my percentage calculated?
It starts from the college's published acceptance rate. Jim, the AlphaApply.ai counselor, rates your profile on academics, activities, leadership, athletics, and personality, and your SAT or ACT is compared with the college's middle-50% range. The stronger your profile is against that college's typical admit, the further your percentage moves above its acceptance rate, and the weaker, the further below.
How accurate is the percentage?
It is an estimate, not a promise. It cannot see your essays, recommendations, or your school's context, and those can move a real decision either way. Colleges that admit fewer than 10% of applicants stay a reach for everyone, so the estimate never goes above 24% there. Use it to check that your list is balanced.
What do the five ratings mean?
Each is a score out of 100 against all college applicants. Academics covers grades, course rigor, and test scores. Activities looks at depth, years, and results, not the number of clubs. Leadership is responsibility for other people. Athletics matters most at the varsity-captain level and above. Personality is what your choices show about you, and it is the one your essays change most.
Can I upload my resume?
Yes. Upload a PDF and the text is read in your browser to fill in the activities box. You can edit it before you run the calculator. If the file is a scan with no text, paste your activities instead.
Is my information saved?
Your profile is sent to our AI once to produce the result and is not saved on our servers. It stays in your browser, so if you sign up afterward your GPA and test scores are already filled in.
Is it free?
Yes. You get 3 runs a day with no account. A free AlphaApply.ai account gives you a full plan with Jim: college list, essays, and deadlines.
