How the Score Works
Jim, the AlphaApply.ai counselor, reads your draft against the prompt you picked and scores four things, each out of 25.

What Your Score Means

What It Will Not Do
It will not rewrite your essay or hand you sentences to paste in. It says what to change and why, the way a counselor would, and leaves the words to you. It is not a prediction of admission, and it is not an AI or plagiarism detector.

No. Your draft is sent to our AI once to be scored and is not saved on our servers. It stays in your browser, so if you sign up afterward it is already there for Jim to work on with you.
How accurate is the score?
It is one careful read of your draft against what the prompt is asking, scored the same way every time. It is not an admissions decision and it cannot see the rest of your application. Use it to find the weakest part of the draft, not to predict a result.
What is a good score?
Most first drafts land between 50 and 65. A draft in the high 70s or 80s is close to ready. Above 90 is rare. The number matters less than the one fix that comes with it.
Will it rewrite my essay for me?
No. It tells you what to change and why, and it quotes your own lines back to you. The words stay yours. Colleges expect the essay to be your own work.
Does it check whether my essay sounds AI-written?
It is not an AI detector. The voice score does drop when a draft is full of generic, polished filler, because that is what admissions readers skim past.
Which essays can it rate?
Any college application essay: the Common App personal statement, the UC Personal Insight Questions, or a supplemental essay. Paste the prompt and it scores against that prompt. Each of our 115 college pages also has a rater set to that school's prompts.
