“University Honors Program supplemental essay: Many FSU Honors students pursue double majors, often in completely different fields, to enrich their academic experience. If you could choose two majors offered at FSU from different departments, what would they be and why? Design an Honors Signature Course that explores a topic or issue at the intersection of these two majors. Name the course and provide a brief (2-3 sentence) description for the website. Describe in detail what is important for you that students gain from the class and suggest a campus resource, faculty member or organization to enhance their learning experience.”
Limit: 350 words (optional). Deadlines: Early Decision: October 15, 2026. Early Action: October 15, 2026. Regular Decision: December 1, 2026. Scholarships: December 1, 2026.
What FSU is really asking
Can you connect two fields in a way that shows how your mind works?
The mistake most applicants make
Picking two majors that obviously go together, like biology and chemistry, then writing a course description.
Do this instead
Choose a pairing that only makes sense because of you, then design a course a real professor would want to teach. Give it a title, one core question, and one assignment. Specifics are the whole game.
How to spend 350 words
350 words leaves room for a scene and a reflection. Open inside the moment rather than before it, spend most of the words on what happened and what you noticed, and keep the "what it means" to the final third.
