What Stevens is really asking
What research or study abroad would you actually do?
The mistake most applicants make
Generic enthusiasm.
Do this instead
One research question or place, why it fits your story, and what you would do with it.
How to spend 400 words
400 words leaves room for a scene and a reflection. Open inside the moment rather than before it, spend most of the words on what happened and what you noticed, and keep the "what it means" to the final third.
