What Williams is really asking
Can you think on the page when it is graded work, not an application essay?
The mistake most applicants make
Submitting a polished creative piece or a research paper heavy on citations. They want to watch you think.
Do this instead
Pick a paper where you argued something, ideally one with a teacher's comments on it. A strong in-class handwritten essay can beat a typed one. Add the assignment prompt and one sentence on why you chose it. If nothing you have fits, skip it.
How to spend 200 words
200 words is two or three short paragraphs: the specific moment, what it revealed or changed, and why it points to this school. Cut any sentence that could appear in another applicant's essay.
