What GWU is really asking
Are you curious beyond your major, and can you prove it with something hard you did?
The mistake most applicants make
Saying you love learning and listing subjects you find interesting.
Do this instead
The example is the whole essay. One time you tackled something outside your lane: a philosophy book that beat you, a coding project as a humanities kid, a debate on a topic you knew nothing about. Show the struggle and the way out. Then why that habit is why you want a liberal arts honors program.
How to spend 500 words
500 words is a full short essay. Build it around one story with a clear turn, use real names and details, and let the reflection grow out of the story instead of being announced at the end.
How to start
Jim starts by asking you: “What is the hardest thing you have learned that had nothing to do with your intended major?” Answer it with Jim, free →
