What UPenn is really asking
Why energy, from your own experience?
The mistake most applicants make
Climate change in general.
Do this instead
One experience that made energy real, what you did about it, and what in VIPER fits your goal.
How to spend 400 words
400 words leaves room for a scene and a reflection. Open inside the moment rather than before it, spend most of the words on what happened and what you noticed, and keep the "what it means" to the final third.
