“Each of the three CNS Honors Programs has a distinct profile. Why are you a good fit for the Dean's Scholars, Health Science Scholars, or Polymathic Scholars program? How will you contribute to that community?”

What UT Austin is really asking
Do you know what these three programs actually are, and which one fits your specific pattern?
The mistake most applicants make
Writing a general honors essay that could go to any of the three.
Do this instead
Name the program and one fact about it that matches you. Dean's Scholars means research, Health Science means clinical, Polymathic means you want to cross fields. Give the experience that proves the match, then one thing you would bring to that specific group.
How to spend 350 words
350 words leaves room for a scene and a reflection. Open inside the moment rather than before it, spend most of the words on what happened and what you noticed, and keep the "what it means" to the final third.
How to start
Jim starts by asking you: “Which of the three programs describes what you already do on weekends?” Answer it with Jim, free →
