What Alabama is really asking
Can you change your mind when the evidence changes?
The mistake most applicants make
Picking a safe opinion shift, like 'I used to think math was boring.' They want a belief you actually held and had to give up.
Do this instead
Open on what you believed and why it made sense at the time. Then the moment it cracked. Spend most of the words on what changing your mind cost you and what you do differently now.
How to spend 500 words
500 words is a full short essay. Build it around one story with a clear turn, use real names and details, and let the reflection grow out of the story instead of being announced at the end.
How to start
Jim starts by asking you: “What is something you argued for that you would not argue for today?” Answer it with Jim, free →
